East Asian Studies "Loud Enough" Movie Summary

I want to give a huge shout-out to KU’s Center for East Asian Studies for facilitating an amazing movie marathon!

As an individual who participated in the event and had no prior knowledge of the Loud Enough film, I found it incredibly informative. The community gathered in support of Madison Smith, a Lindsborg teen who not only survived a sexual assault but sought legal justice for herself and other girls despite massive barriers. Had I watched the film alone, my anger would have consumed me- Madison did everything she was "supposed to" as a victim and still received no legal support in convicting her abuser. When watching the film with community members, I found that our group's resentment toward how the case was handled evolved into something more. Peers and I left the event feeling passionate, fired up, and ready to advocate for survivors and prevention alike.

Thank you, KU’s Center for East Asian Studies, for the opportunity to learn from such an incredible film.
